Background

RDC is represented in Germany by three companies:  the holding company RDC Deutschland GmbH (RDC-D), and the two operating companies:  Hamburg-Köln-Express GmbH (HKX) and RDC AUTOZUG Sylt GmbH.

Incorporated since January 2009, RDC Deutschland GmbH (RDC-D) is privately-owned by RDC and has branch offices in Hamburg, Cologne and Niebüll. RDC-D acquired and refurbished a fleet of ex-ÖBB 4010 passenger coaches for use in Germany.

Since July 2012, RDC-D has been successfully operating the open access intercity passenger service Hamburg-Köln Express GmbH (HKX) between Cologne and Hamburg. Since December 2015, service has been extended beyond Cologne to Frankfurt/Main.

In February 2016, RDC-D founded RDC AUTOZUG Sylt GmbH as the first privately-owned railway company to offer train service for passengers and their cars between the German mainland and the island of Sylt. The modified cars for the Niebüll/Westernland/Sylt route just received their homologation by the Federal Railway Authority (EBA), and trial operation runs will begin in the Spring 2016.
